Referral Services

When you are not feeling well, you initially go to your primary doctor for a diagnosis. If your doctor believes that your illness may be due to a heart problem, he or she may refer you to a heart specialist who your doctor knows and trusts. Likewise, when you have any legal problem, you should begin by contacting your primary attorney. If your primary attorney does not handle a particular legal issue, then your primary attorney should refer to another attorney who concentrates in that area of law. My office has a network of attorneys who concentrate in legal matters that I do not handle. These are attorneys who I know and trust which is much better than looking through a phone book and calling an attorney at random whom you have never met. At no cost to you, our office can refer you to attorneys who handle cases involving a variety of matters including the following:

Personal Injury

Examples of personal injury include automobile, motorcycle, trucking and boating accidents, slip and falls, injuries sustained while on someone else’s property, medical malpractice, defective products or medications, and any other accident when someone is injured due to the fault of another person or company. Many people have legitimate personal injury claims but fail to take the proper steps to recover damages. Some decide not to contact an attorney because they feel that they can handle the matter themselves without representation. They foolishly accept a small settlement, sign a release with the insurance company adjuster, and are forever precluded from recovering additional money. Attorneys customarily do not charge you a fee unless they settle or win your case. This is known as a "contingency fee". Most automobile owners, businesses, and homeowners maintain insurance to protect themselves in the event of an accident. Larger settlement offers may be made to injured people who are represented by an attorney because the insurance company adjuster knows that settlements for valid claims must be paid to avoid expensive and protracted litigation.

Workers' Compensation

Workers' compensation law deals with workers who have job-related injuries or diseases. Benefits are paid by the employer regardless of fault. In most instances, workers' compensation benefits are paid for accidental injuries that are caused by the employee's work. Workers may also be compensated for aggravation of a pre-existing injury. The injured employee is entitled to receive all necessary medical, surgical and hospital services reasonably required to remedy the effects of the injury or disease. Employees who must lose time from work in order to recover from the injury or disease are entitled to receive weekly payments until they are able to return to work. When the employee has sustained an injury or disease which results in permanent disability, scarring or other disfigurement, additional benefits are also paid to the employee. Like personal injury cases, attorneys customarily do not charge you a fee unless they settle or win your case.

Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy is court proceeding governed by federal law whereby individuals and businesses unable to pay their bills are shielded to a degree from their creditors. The bankruptcy case is supervised by the bankruptcy court. Depending on your individual circumstances, different types of bankruptcies can be filed. Chapter 7 Bankruptcy (sometimes referred to as a "straight bankruptcy") will discharge or wipe out most, if not all debts, permitting a fresh financial start. Chapter 13 Bankruptcy (also known as "reorganization of debts") allows individuals with regular income to pay off some or all of their debt over a given period of time through a bankruptcy plan.
